Job Description

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) was established on 1 July 2006 following the merger of four Trusts covering Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Mersey Region. The Trust provides services to approximately 7 million people in an area of 5,500 square miles, which incorporates widely varying demography, topography and health needs throughout the region.

The Emergency Operations Centre function makes a vital contribution to the provision of first-class patient care, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Due to developments in service provision we require additional Emergency Medical Dispatchers within our Operations Centre based at Parkway, Manchester.

Responsible for handling 999 emergency ambulance calls from the public you will deliver advice and guidance to callers regarding medical/trauma conditions and scene safety as well as dealing with urgent and other calls; operating state of the art telephony, computer aided dispatch and prioritisation systems. Full on the job training will be given and an excellent career structure is available for future career progression.

Educated to GCSE standard or above, or with equivalent vocational qualifications, you will have experience of inputting and accessing Windows based packages together with a high standard of keyboard skills.

We are looking for individuals who have a passion for providing excellent customer service. You will also have a flair for telephone communication and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an assessment day where they will be asked to undertake tests in spelling, literacy and listening. Candidates who pass all 3 assessments will progress on to the typing test, where you must reach a minimum of 30 words per minute, if this test is passed you will then progress on to a panel interview.

Assessments and interviews will be held on 3rd and 4th June 2017 and the start date will be 14th August 2017.
