HR Officer

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000pa, dependent on experience

Location: Central Bristol, with occasional travel within the UK.

Contract: Fixed term maternity cover until December 2018

We are SafeLives, a national charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse. We combine insight from services, survivors and statistics to support people to become safe, well and rebuild their lives. Our experts find out what works to stop domestic abuse. Then we do everything we can to make sure families everywhere benefit. It works: after getting the right help, more than 60% of victims tell us that the abuse stops. SafeLives is about making sure all families become safe, and stay safe in the long-term. Our work will look at all victims, at all levels of risk, and their children. And we will work out how to change perpetrators’ behaviour too.

About the Role

We’re looking to develop our new HR structure and this maternity cover role will be key in embedding and supporting our values and behaviours. This is a real opportunity for an experienced practitioner at the Officer or Advisor level to act as the operational HR lead and support a fast-moving organisation driving real change in the domestic abuse sector.

You will oversee the smooth running of key HR operations and you will be instrumental in building a culture amongst our employees that reflects our values through the provision of excellent HR support. Reporting to the COO (pending appointment), and managing a full-time HR Administrator you will be expected to act independently and respond to the full range of HR policy and process queries. In this role there will be a strong focus on supporting the embedding and development of our culture and behaviours; employee recognition and performance measurement/management; learning and development and developing management and leadership capability across the organisation.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience of handling the full range of generalist HR issues, be qualified to CIPD level 5 or equivalent and have experience of operating at Advisor or equivalent level. As the operational lead you will also be confident dealing with a range of internal and external senior stakeholders and as part of a new functional structure you will need to be adaptable as it develops and able to quickly establish effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation. You will also be able to provide a responsive and accurate service to remote based teams.
