Job Description

We wish to appoint a Laboratory Technician to join the Imperial BRC Genomics Facility on the Hammersmith campus of Imperial College London. The Facility provides state-of-the-art laboratory and bioinformatics support for translational research, harnessing genome information to advance disease diagnostics, prognosis and treatment. The Facility supports a wide range of next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications including whole genome, whole exome and targeted resequencing, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, methylome analysis and bacterial/viral sequencing. It works closely with investigators across the Faculty of Medicine on translational research projects that make use of genome technologies to identify the genetic basis of heritable human diseases to help disease diagnostics, treatment and prevention.

Duties and responsibilities
The post holder will operate, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot the sequencing equipment and assist with all other aspects of the NGS workflow including sample tracking, library preparation and quality control (QC). We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Laboratory Technician with strong expertise in next-generation sequencing applications and Illumina platforms.

Essential requirements
The successful applicant will have an MSc or equivalent, in genetics, molecular biology or a closely related discipline and a background in genetics and/or molecular biology. The ability to multi-task and work effectively across a wide range of applications and projects is essential.
