Job Description

Chaplains provide spiritual support, strength and guidance to service personnel and their families. They are a valuable source of personal well being and guidance in times of war and peace.

Typical Responsibilities:

Assume the pastoral role of a member of the clergy, performing the duties of a priest, vicar or minister
Counsel personnel and their dependents on spiritual or emotional matters
Help personnel work through difficult moral issues as they carry out their duties
Provide welfare support to dependents and families

Similar civilian roles include Parish priest, Vicar or Minister.

27 days per year for 12 years minimum. Each year includes a 15 day block for general RAF training, which is taken over a two week period, and 12 days for additional/trade training, or training exercises.

The possibility of being deployed to a UK or overseas base for up to 6 months after the first year.

Qualifications:

The academic qualifications required are those set by the Sending Churches for ministerial training. You must be ordained and have 3 years’ pastoral experience.

Age: 26 – 53 (Must enter SERE before 53rd birthday)

Qualifications:

Professional. GCSE/SCEs at Grade C/2 minimum or 2 SNEs at Grade 5 or equivalent, in English Language and Maths.

All chaplains in the Reserves must be ordained minsters and normally have two years pastoral experience, find out more.

Age: 26 – 54 (Must attest before 55th birthday – Ex Regulars over the age of 55 may be considered on a case by case basis)
