Diversity, equity, and inclusion: How to claim your space in an industry built for white men
There are more CEOs named Peter leading the top UK companies than there are female CEOs in total. In the US it’s the same problem, different name: more CEOs named John head up fortune 500 organisations than female CEOs exist. This speaks to a widespread issue of gender diversity in the tech industry but when we compound barriers faced by women with the intersectional characteristic of race, the outcomes are more dire.
It’s no secret that the technology industry has a diversity problem. More needs to be done to bring in new people and fresh perspectives by challenging existing structures within businesses to ensure they are inclusive to all. It’s also critical that women in tech are supported to claim their own space and grow and develop throughout their career.
This panel event, co-hosted by GBG and Women In Tech Forum, will discuss current industry challenges women of colour continue to face, where the responsibility for creating inclusive and diverse workspaces truly lies and what steps women of colour and allies can take to claim their space in the technology industry.
