Administrator

Job Description

Exciting Career Development Opportunities for Grade 3 Administrators at Northumbria University’s new NMC Competence Test Centre.

Would you like a change of role and to be part of a great new team?

On 23 March 2022 Northumbria University officially opened its new NMC Competence Test Centre at Coach Lane Campus for the conduct of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) which simulate a clinical environment and various ‘patient’ scenarios which are likely to be encountered by registered nurses and midwives.

We are one of five test centres based around the UK. The Test Centres provide Part Two of the NMC’s Test of Competence for international nurses and midwifes seeking registration with the NMC and for those nurses and midwives looking to renew their registration after a career break. Candidates are expected to utilise a modern evidence base and effectively demonstrate safe practical application of nursing and midwifery skills. The Test of Competence is blueprinted against the current UK pre-registration standards which are available on the NMC’s website.

To support the running and operation of the Centre, we have a number of exciting opportunities for Grade 3 Administrators on a 1-3 year secondment to join our growing team.

As one of a team of Administrators you will support the NMC Competence Test Centre Manager and Coordinators to manage and deliver a diverse range of activities across the Test Centre including the key role of supporting candidates through their journey through the OSCE examination. You will provide a range of pastoral care to the candidate including supporting them with all aspects of key paperwork. You will be responsible for day-to-day bookings through the booking system and will be responsible for aspects of case management and the production of management information. You will directly support the examination process by handling paperwork related to exam scenarios. You will also support the services and activities of internal and external supply arrangements (including but not limited to cleaning, porterage, improvement work, window cleaning, laundry and waste services, pest control, grounds maintenance, help-desk, reception services). You will complete all administrative and reception duties linked to the NMC Competence Test Centre; including filing, customer service, record keeping and support the production of regular reports to the NMC. You will be required to work the standard 37 hours a week (pro-rata if part time) on a rota basis needing, at times, to cover early shifts at the CTC (starting at 7.00am) or the late shift finishing at 5.30 or 6.00pm, or later if the centre opens for extended hours.

The successful candidate will be experienced in administration, will be IT skilled, particularly across the Microsoft suite of products, most notably Excel,  and have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.

You will be proactive and self-driven to achieve results, have the ability to plan and organise resources and have the skills to work with and engage with candidates attending the NMC Competence Test Centre.
