Job Description

Are you interested in helping make a positive difference to the lives of young people in the West Midlands by volunteering as a Police Cadet Leader?

We are looking to build on the fantastic first year of the re-introduced Cadets scheme within the force, and are looking for volunteers from all walks of life with the following skills and

experience:

Good interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to motivate and engage young people from all a range of cultural backgrounds
Flexibility and adaptiveness

The ability to lead, team-build and maintain

The confidence to plan and deliver sessions

Good IT skills

Ideally you will also have experience of:

Delivering curriculum based training

Youth/community engagement

The Cadet units are based at locations around the West Midlands including in Birmingham, Coventry, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Solihull. You will be assigned a unit based on your preference and the unit’s availability.

No qualifications are required as full training will be provided, but good listening and communication skills are vital, as well as the ability to make people feel welcome and at ease, especially for young people for whom English may be a second language.
Due to the nature of the role you should be able to commitment for a minimum of a year, to volunteer your time primarily on term-time weekdays once a week during the late afternoon / early evening. There may also be limited events and ad-hoc sessions during school holidays and weekends.

You don’t have to work for West Midlands Police in order to become a Volunteer Cadet Leader – if you are enthusiastic and have the right experience and skill-set, we would love to hear from you.

The role will not commence until the volunteer have been security & DBS cleared; a thorough vetting process is in place for all volunteer roles.
