Job Description

As part of its strategic development, the Department of Informatics is seeking applications from candidates for the position of Chair in Computer Science (Human Computer Interaction) starting in September 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful applicant for this post will undertake research and teaching in an area of computer science and HCI. The successful applicant may also be required to teach on other post-graduate or undergraduate degree programmes offered by the Department of Informatics, and will be expected to supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

Accordingly, the successful applicant will need an excellent knowledge and awareness of current research and practical challenges in human-computer interaction understood in the broadest sense of the term. The Department seeks to broaden and deepen its current strengths in these areas, so candidates engaged in research and teaching which complements that of the existing members of the Department will be considered favourably. Any application area, but preferably related to the Hubs, is welcome, including mobile devices, medical devices, natural language, IoT sensors, wearables, augmented reality, accessibility, sustainability, interaction design, human computation, and social computing.

The successful candidate will join the Human Centred Computing (HCC) group be expected to contribute to the HCC Hub (see Research collaboration across research groups, with departmental hubs and with other Departments in the Faculty and across the College is strongly encouraged.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant experience and settled by negotiation. The minimum professorial salary at King’s College, London is £66,084 per annum, plus £2,923 London Weighting Allowance per annum. Benefits include an annual season ticket loan scheme and a superannuation scheme.

Applicants must have a PhD, an excellent publication record, and the ability to attract research funding. It is essential that applicants have the enthusiasm and commitment required to contribute to the further development of the research standing of the Department of Informatics, and to make a full contribution to teaching and administrative activities.

The selection process will include a presentation and a panel interview.
