The Old Vic is seeking an experienced and hands-on Deputy Head of Stage to play a key leadership role within our Technical team.
Working closely with the Head of Stage, you will help deliver five to six world-class productions each year, alongside a dynamic additional programming schedule. This role requires strong practical expertise, calm leadership, and a collaborative approach across creative and operational departments.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead fit-ups, technical rehearsals, performances and get-outs
- Supervise and develop stage crews
- Operate and maintain counterweight flying systems and rigging
- Support scenic construction, props fabrication and stage effects
- Deputise for the Head of Stage as required
- Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation
- Support wider building maintenance and technical operations
About You:
- Significant theatre stage department experience
- Strong carpentry and scenic construction skills
- Experience leading crews and supervising casual staff
- Excellent knowledge of health & safety in live performance
- Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends and overnight shifts
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Hours:
192 hours over a four-week rota (including evenings and overnight work).
