We are looking for someone who is positive, enthusiastic, able to build good relationships with all staff groups, and able to communicate in an effective manner. You must also be willing and have ideas for introducing changes and improvements in an established department.
The position is based at North Tyneside General Hospital, however, you will also be managing the teams at Hexham General Hospital and Haltwhistle Memorial Hospital. You will be required to travel to these sites as part of your remit (approximately 1 day per week, but more if the service requires).
The working pattern will be Monday to Friday between the hours of 07:30- 15:30, with some flexibility. You may be required to work Bank Holidays as part of this role.

The main duties of the role involve maintaining the standards of cleanliness as specified throughout the work areas, using approved methods. The successful candidate will work with domestic supervisors to effectively organise the rotas for approximately 130 staff. You will be expected to deploy staff according to the immediate cleaning needs of the area.
The Domestic Superintendent will have a full understanding of health and safety and hygiene regulations governing hospitals and clinical sites alongside management of pest control systems and window cleaning contract. You will be expected to complete all recruitment and selection of domestic staff, including training and developing staff members.

It will be the responsibility of the Domestic Superintendent to manage and complete the HR processes with regards to domestic staff e.g. Sickness, Management meetings, and maintain accurate staff records for Training, Appraisals, time keeping, sickness. The successful post holder will ensure staff are working to agreed cleaning schedules in all areas of Domestic work.
Full training will be provided and you will have an induction period and you will also have the opportunity to work towards a HNC/ HND qualification.

Essential Criteria:

  • A good level of general education
  • Supervisory Management training or equivalent experience in a line manager or supervisory role
