A key operational arm of HSE, Chemicals, Explosives and Microbiological Hazards Division(CEMHD) regulates the UK’s major hazard industries – companies whose products are essential to our everyday life, but where failures in safety management and risk control can lead to catastrophic harm to workers and the public at large. We are responsible for securing safety across a range of industries including; energy production (oil, gas and emerging technologies), chemical/pharmaceutical production and storage and mines, explosives and pipelines.
CEMHD employs around 300 professional engineers and scientists across a wide range of disciplines.
Your main responsibility is to address potential major accident hazards in relation to Electrical Engineering in onshore major hazard installations, which includes oil refineries, oil and gas storage, chemicals production, and some nuclear sites.
Using your specialist knowledge, you will:
•Assess safety reports and conduct accident investigations and Inspections of major hazard installations;
•Support enforcement action, including preparing technical reports and expert evidence in legal proceedings;
•Provide technical support to other specialists on the team;
•Develop national technical benchmarks and guidance;
•Contribute to the development of technical and operational strategy;
•The job involves work from home or office coupled with site visits.
