Job Description

Cheshire Constabulary is promoting to the rank of Sergeant. The date for applications to be submitted by is 9:00am on Friday 11th October 2019.

We are looking qualified Constables who are eligible for promotion to join our front line leaders.

You will need to be an authentic leader and someone who is passionate about leading and bringing others with them.

To be eligible to apply, you will:

• Be currently serving as a Constable in a recognised Home Office police force

• Be qualified to the rank of Sergeant

• Have an acceptable performance, attendance and disciplinary record. (An applicant must not exceed 4 periods of absence OR 9 days of absence within the last 12 months)

• Demonstrate a passion and commitment to making Cheshire even safer

• Display full competence against the Competency Values Framework for the rank of Sergeant

The specific roles and postings will be determined upon appointment.

This is a challenging and rigorous process; to be successful you must prove that you have the ability to make a significant contribution to Cheshire Constabulary as a Sergeant.

The application for the Sergeant Promotion Process requires applicants to respond to the 6 competency based questions within the Competency Values Framework (CVF) at Level 2 by making reference to experience gained within the last 2 years. Applicants are strongly advised to read the CVF for the role of Sergeant (Level 2) prior to applying. Please ensure that you complete the application form and attach this to your online submission. Officers who are interested in applying, the promotion process will consist of:

• Competency based application form
• Psychometric Testing
• Work Sample Exercise
• Presentation
• Values based interview

Officers successful through the promotion process will be promoted;

• Substantively if qualified to OSPRE I and II

• Temporarily if qualified to Legal Examination Part I (previously OSPRE I) for a minimum of 12 months to complete Work Based Assessments. Once WBA is successfully completed you will be made substantive in post.

If successful through the promotion process you must give considerations to the fact that you could be posted anywhere in the county, exceptional circumstances will be considered but only if brought to our attention in advance.

Please note that External officers who are successful through the process will be required to undertake pre-employment checks, these include vetting, drugs screening, fitness test, medical appointment and referencing.
