The Centre for Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Technologies within the School of Life Sciences and Education has an exceptional record of multi-disciplinary applied research. We have a state-of-the art biomechanics facility with latest equipment for the assessment of human movement. Led by Professor Nachi Chockalingam, this group consists of around 10 research active staff and full-time postgraduate students. This group offers an active research environment with every member contributing to specific objectives of each project. This ensures that members have plenty of opportunities to build their CVs to enhance their career prospects.

This group is looking for a Post Doctoral Fellow for a Newton Fund Institutional Links programme led by Professor Roozbeh Naemi that has a focus on development of an ultrasound-based diagnostic tool to identify diabetic foot ulceration risk in Peruvian population.

We have an international collaborator for this project and the post-holder is required to spend a considerable amount of time in Peru to contribute to data collection and to lead the data extraction and analyses.

The postholder will have the opportunity to interact with the international partners to deliver high-quality research outputs. This post whilst offering an excellent short-term career development opportunity, provides a strong platform to work with experienced researchers to build grant applications.

We expect the Post-Doctoral Fellow to work with the research team to collect some biomechanics data relating to the soft tissue mechanics of diabetic foot and to lead the evaluation and testing of the developed system.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Biomechanics or a related subject. They will have exemplary qualitative and quantitative research skills, good academic writing and critical thinking skills. The successful candidate will also have excellent organisational skills and work well as part of a team. Prior experience with protocol development for the mechanical assessment of the plantar soft tissue utilising experimental and modelling approaches and having peer-reviewed publications are highly desirable.
