Overview
An opportunity has arisen to recruit a research assistant (RA) / research associate (PDRA) to join a team developing novel medical devices, battery technology and therapies for the remote monitoring and treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease through Innovate UK, EPSRC and MRC-funded projects.
You will be based at the University of Sheffield and will work closely with the project team to conduct research and coordinate device testing and analysis. PDRA will be expected to manage, plan and execute operational people and project deliverables. RA will be provided with the necessary support and training to deliver and develop current as well as future teams and studies. Studies will require analytic, wet lab, animal and translational skills as well as a Home Office Personal licence.
You will work with a team with extensive skills in device development and translational studies. You will be supported by Prof Alex Rothman and will be embedded within a flourishing research group. You will be encouraged to develop links within the broader University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals community including the Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit.

Essential criteria
Undergraduate qualification in science or health care or equivalent experience.
Post-graduate qualification in science or health care or equivalent experience - G7
Experience of a range of translational research in wet lab, animal lab and clinical studies.
Experience of a range of research methods, e.g. data analytics, systematic searching and appraisal of scientific literature with a sound understanding of the scientific principles and methodology. Experience undertaking research related to complex interventions.
Experience undertaking research related to complex interventions D(G6), E(G7)
Report writing experience, e.g. manuscript preparation and publication and grant writing
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within the University and externally, with researchers, clinicians and members of the public.
Ability to work within a team.
Excellent IT skills
Ability to acquire new skills and knowledge where necessary to facilitate the success of the current study
Respect for confidentiality and knowledge of the Data Protection Act
Having operational management skills in the planning and execution of a team and project D(G6), E(G7)
