Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual with a passion for heart development and disease to use their skills to investigate the role of cardiac function in growth of the heart during development. The project will investigate how specific extracellular matrix composition and heart contractility together facilitate cell addition to the heart, using zebrafish as a model organism. You will join the group led by Dr Emily Noël leading the experimental work on a BBSRC-funded grant, with the position available from mid-February 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until mid-October 2025.

You will have a PhD in Developmental Biology or related discipline (or equivalent experience), prior experience working with zebrafish embryos, with strong experimental skills including zebrafish transgenesis and/or live imaging. Previous experience with the development of quantitative image analysis approaches would also be beneficial. The ability to work independently is essential, while maintaining a strong team ethic with excellent communication skills.

The successful applicant will be able to contribute significantly to the ongoing research of the Noël lab, by designing, developing, and performing experiments along with appropriate data analysis approaches, and should be able to disseminate findings by writing papers and abstracts and presenting ongoing work at conferences and seminars. By working alongside PhD students, technical staff, and MSc students, you will also have opportunities to further develop your supervision and teaching skills.
