Overview

 

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a post-doctoral research associate (statistician) to join a team undertaking cutting-edge, decentralised, technologically enhanced clinical studies aimed to improve the treatment of patients with pulmonary hypertension through EPSRC, MRC and commercially funded projects.

 

You will be based at the University of Sheffield and work closely with the project team to develop and deliver data analysis of remote monitoring and clinical data to enhance the evaluation of patient health and well-being. Studies will require excellent technical skills and teamwork and provide significant opportunities for personal and professional development.

 

The team have extensive skills in translational and clinical studies. You will be supported by Prof Alex Rothman and will be embedded within a flourishing research group with established relationships with clinical trial units and clinical study methodologists. You will be encouraged to develop links within the broader University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals community including the Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit.

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Planning, development and delivery of data analysis for clinical studies
  • Manuscript and grant preparation
  • Support activities of the wider group
  • Contribute to lab and department meetings
  • Opportunities to present at national and international conferences
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post

Essential criteria

 

  • Post-graduate qualification in science or health care (assessed via application)
  • Experience of a range of research methods, e.g. data analytics, systematic searching and appraisal of scientific literature (assessed via application)
  • Sound understanding of the scientific principles and methodology (assessed via application and interview)
  • Report writing experience, e.g. manuscript preparation and publication and grant writing (assessed via application)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within the University and externally, with researchers, clinicians and members of the public (assessed via application and interview)
  • Ability to work within a team (assessed via application and interview)
  • Excellent IT skills (assessed via application and interview)
  • Ability to acquire new skills and knowledge where necessary to facilitate the success of the current study (assessed via application and interview)
  • Respect for confidentiality and knowledge of the Data Protection Act (assessed via application and interview)
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post (assessed via application and interview)

 

Desirable criteria

 

  • Experience of a range of healthcare data analysis skills (assessed via application)
  • Experience undertaking research related to complex interventions  (assessed via application and interview)
  • Having operational management skills in the planning and execution of a team and project (assessed via application and interview)
