Job Description

Student Nurse entry to the RAF is a great way to start your career. You will train with us and, once graduated, you will begin your career as an RAF Registered Nurse, providing direct nursing care in a variety of different clinical settings.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Provide primary healthcare
  • Deliver secondary healthcare
  • Aeromedical evacuation (transfer of patients by air)

After basic Recruit Training at RAF Halton you will commence undergraduate professional training as a Student Nurse (Adult) within Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service (PMRAFNS). This is a 3-year Academic pathway within Birmingham City University (BCU) and on successful completion you will qualify as a RN(A) within part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.

Previous Experience

It is desirable that all candidates should have some nursing/caring experience (voluntary or paid employment). Any declared experience should be accompanied with a reference.

Recruit Training

Your career will start with a 10-week Basic Recruit Training Centre at RAF Halton. The course is designed to help you adjust to a military environment. As well as fitness and military training, you will also learn about the RAF lifestyle.

Specilaist Training

On completion of BRTC at RAF Halton you will commence undergraduate professional training as a Student Nurse (Adult) within PMRAFNS. This is a 3-year academic programme within Birmingham City University (BCU) and on successful completion you will be awarded a BSc(Hons) in Adult Nursing and qualify as a RN(A) on part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.

Following appropriate experience there may be an opportunity to specialise in accordance with Service requirements. The Nurse Education Advisor (NEA) will provide guidance for those wishing to advance in practice.

All Applicants Must:

  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth.
  • Be aged 17 - 47 years (Must attest before 48th birthday)

PAY

During Initial Training : £15,985+ Benefits

On Completion Of Phase Two Training And One Year Of Service: £20,400+ Benefits

Education Requirements

Have 120 UCAS points from higher education. Applicants must meet these criteria as well as all RAF criteria.
