We are seeking to recruit an University Teacher to join our Orthoptics and Ophthalmology team, within the School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery. Applications are welcomed from those with a passion for teaching and research.
You will have the vision and drive to help us achieve our ambition of delivering an outstanding student experience to all of our students across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We aim to equip our graduates to deliver excellent clinical care, advance understanding in Orthoptics and be at the forefront of the profession.
You will have expertise and experience in Orthoptic clinical practice, research and or teaching. Relevant expertise and experience in another closely related field will be considered. You will be committed to student engagement, recruitment and support.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver the pre-registration Orthoptic undergraduate degree programme. Teaching may also include contribution to our postgraduate programmes and CPD modules across the MMedSci Vision and Strabismus and ACP in Ophthalmology (paediatrics).

Main duties and responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Design, deliver and co-ordinate high-quality teaching, assessment, feedback and student support to enable effective learning
- Contribute to the design and development of programme modules that are accessible, inclusive and contribute to the University's Teaching and Learning Strategy
- Develop and implement ideas for improving own teaching design, delivery and assessment
Citizenship & Leadership
- Actively contribute to the collective vision, mission and values of the University through individual action and inclusive, collaborative working
- Consistently take responsibility for outcomes, provide support to others and make inclusive decisions which together have a demonstrable positive impact within the School

- Plan and prioritise your own daily research, teaching and administrative tasks as well as participate in longer term planning through contribution to policy development.

Essential criteria
- Recognised qualification in Orthoptics and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or equivalent profession specific qualification and registration. - Application
- Postgraduate qualification such as a PhD, MSc or equivalent level of clinical experience in a relevant subject area. - Application
- Relevant experience in teaching and assessment within Orthoptics and Ophthalmology (could include clinical placement supervision or clinical examinations)
- Commitment to design and deliver high-quality teaching programmes to ensure effective learning - Application / Presentation / Interview
- Experience of working both collaboratively and independently with a high degree of personal effectiveness - Interview
- Experience of fostering effective relationships at all levels, both internally and externally (e.g. academia, professional bodies, NHS England or equivalent) - Application
