Job Description

Could you help shape the biggest organisation for girls and young women in the UK?

Girlguiding is looking for young people aged 18-27 with vision and commitment to join our Board of Trustees and help us fulfil our mission of empowering girls and young women. We’ve reserved these three roles for those 18-27 because we believe you have vital skills, experiences and perspectives to contribute to our work, and we want to make sure that young voices are always at the heart of our organisation.

About the role

Our board sets our strategy and direction, holds us to account and ensures we are always working for the benefit of girls and young women. You’ll play a key role in contributing to the board’s work and decision making, attending board and committee meetings, overseeing Girlguiding’s activities and supporting us in living up to our mission. This is not a paid role, but Girlguiding will cover all your reasonable expenses.

Who can apply?

Trustees need good communication and team-working skills, and the ability to weigh up information so they can make decisions in the best interests of the organisation. Above all, trustees need to have a deep commitment to our work. If you care about improving the lives of girls and young women as much as we do, we’d love to hear from you.

We welcome candidates of any or no gender and from any background who think they can contribute as a trustee. We would like to particularly encourage those from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, people belonging to minority religions and LGBT+ people to apply to increase the diversity of the current board and bring fresh perspectives through their lived experience.

How much time do I need to give?

Trustees serve for three years, starting from 1 February 2020, and can be reappointed for one further term.

The role will take up around 15-20 days a year, including reading time, four Board of Trustee meetings and four committee meetings each year. Some meetings will be at weekends.
