HS2 Opens Applications for 2025 Graduate Programme

Wednesday, March 12, 2025

HS2 Ltd has launched its 2025 graduate recruitment drive, offering 30 new graduates the opportunity to work on the UK’s largest transport infrastructure project. The programme, designed to nurture the next generation of infrastructure professionals, will provide hands-on experience in disciplines such as digital engineering, environment, finance, project management, procurement, digital analytics, asset management, and commercial operations.

Successful applicants will complete six-month rotational placements, gaining exposure to multiple areas of HS2’s operations. The initiative aims to equip graduates with a broad understanding of how major infrastructure projects are delivered and help them develop the skills needed for long-term careers in the sector.

A Launchpad for Future Careers

Karen Davis, Head of People Development at HS2 Ltd, emphasised the importance of providing graduates with a strong start to their careers.

“Stepping straight into a role that complements your studies is every graduate’s dream, and I’m delighted that we’re able to extend this opportunity again this year. The sheer scale and significance of HS2 makes it a great place to learn, and those who join us will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the very best in the industry, putting them on track for a rewarding future.”

HS2’s commitment to investing in future talent is evident in its growing workforce, which now comprises around 31,000 people. To date, 117 graduates have successfully completed the scheme, benefitting from structured development and mentorship opportunities.

Graduate Success Stories

Several past graduates have highlighted the value of the programme in shaping their careers.

Harry Fellows, 25, from Solihull, joined HS2’s graduate scheme and has been involved in preparatory works for Interchange Station.

“As I live in Solihull, it’s been great to get involved in the preparatory works for Interchange Station. I’m currently helping to plan the geotechnical works and topographical surveys. Variety is definitely one of the best things about the graduate programme, and if you’re ambitious and seek out opportunities, there is so much you can get involved in. HS2 is passionate about investing in future talent, and for me, this role is about investing in Britain’s future.”

Kirsty O’Leary, 24, from Buckinghamshire, who studied Marketing and Branding at Nottingham Trent University, joined the scheme in 2023 and spoke of the opportunities it has provided.

“I couldn’t have wished for a more varied or exciting role. The development opportunities are brilliant, and it’s fascinating to learn how the pieces of the puzzle fit together to build and maintain a new railway of this scale. Without a doubt, the best part of the role is the diverse range of people and industry professionals you get to meet. Knowledge-sharing is key, and I’ve learnt so much from the people that work here.”

Frank Wagner, 27, from Coventry, has been able to apply his Business degree in a real-world setting, gaining invaluable experience working on major HS2 projects.

“HS2’s graduate programme has enabled me to put the theory element of my Business degree into practice, and without doubt, this role has helped to build my confidence and knowledge. I’ve worked on some really great projects so far, including preparing for the arrival of Solihull’s Interchange Station and the new A46 underbridge. The support for graduates has been great, and I’ve appreciated having a mentor and course lead to help me develop my project management skills.”

Noorjahan Pallikkandi Maliyekal, 39, from Southam, is a Graduate Project Manager at HS2 and has found the programme to be an invaluable stepping stone into the industry.

“Being part of the HS2 graduate scheme has been an incredible journey, and from day one I’ve felt supported by my colleagues. The structured rotations and learning opportunities have helped me to develop my skills, and the support from my mentor and buddy has made a big difference, making it easier to step into such a fast-paced industry.”
