The next National Day for Staff Networks is taking place on Wednesday 11th May 2022. It’s the 6th Year that we have been celebrating networks on the world’s only nationwide day dedicated to recognising networks/resource groups and the incredible value they add to the workplace.
Networks are all about people; they are about progressive change; they are all about supporting the employee journey and inspiring a feeling of belonging.
The purpose of the National Day for Staff Networks is to shine a light and recognise the multiple benefits that staff networks/resource groups offer and in so many cases offer their organisation. Research in 2020/21 showed that 51% of workers wanted to join a network as they returned to working in shared physical spaces. Nearly 40% of organisations relied on their networks to keep them informed on the wellbeing of employees.
We know that networks have the potential to grow and function at both operational and strategic levels. Many networks strive to be seen by those who need them and heard by those in decision making spaces. Indeed,
“A strong employee voice is the cheapest smoke alarm that organisations can install”
. Alas, some organisations have neglected the batteries in these cost saving alarms – rendering them silent. It’s time for viable, visible, voices to renew that attention and recharge what happens next.
What is the National Day for Staff Networks all about?
The National Day for Staff Networks (aka Networks Day) is the day where employee networks across the United Kingdom rise up as a community and lead the way for change in the workplace. This isn't just about the day; it's about the movement!
Launched on 10th May 2017, Networks Day has quickly become an established event in the diversity calendar; and rightly so!
The day presents an opportunity for them to celebrate the contribution, inspire with their stories and offer insight into the lived experiences of underrepresented colleagues and transform the organisation. Networks can be an effective voice for the business and work all colleagues to create more inclusive environment where all employees, that want to, can progress. That is why this year's theme is #ViableVisibleVoices
Bank of America is the main sponsor for the National Day for Staff Networks. Known for their progressive efforts on diversity and inclusion, we are honoured to have their support.
Lesley White, Head of Global Commercial Banking International and Executive Sponsor of PCN EMEA at Bank of America said:
“Networks provide employees and their allies with opportunities to connect with each other to develop leadership skills, broaden their view of diversity, mentor one another and address issues that matter to them, meanwhile encouraging collaboration, generating and harnessing great ideas, bringing lasting value to our business and our workforce
“The Parents and Caregivers Network plays an important role in shaping the culture and values of the business, building connections among colleagues, encouraging careers to flourish and providing support and advice in balancing work and home life. Bank of America’s continued commitment to the Network enables us to provide an essential platform of care for our employees as their needs evolve over time.”
