National Day for Staff Networks 2025: Embracing Change and Driving Inclusivity

Tuesday, February 18, 2025

The National Day for Staff Networks is the world’s only nationwide day dedicated to recognising employee networks and resource groups and the incredible value they add to workplaces. The next National Day for Staff Networks will take place on Wednesday, 14th May 2025, with the theme #ReadyForChange. This important day celebrates how these networks help create inclusive, supportive environments while providing significant benefits to employees and organisations alike.

The purpose of this day is to shine a light on the multiple benefits staff networks bring to organisations. Did you know that 66% of workers believe networks help foster an inclusive environment, and 70% of 18-24-year-olds are more likely to apply to organisations with active networks? Networks play a crucial role in supporting the employee journey, fostering a sense of belonging, and connecting individuals within an organisation.

As workplaces evolve, the need for staff networks to adapt to these changes has never been greater. The #ReadyForChange theme underscores the importance of networks being flexible and resilient in a constantly shifting landscape. Networks must be prepared to meet the needs of employees and organisations, even as factors like AI, remote work, and new DEI challenges shape the future of work.

Alison Dver, of ERG Alliance, stresses that the changing nature of work has made it urgent for organisations to build strong and sustainable networks. "Employee groups continue to be a source of connection and support," Dver explains. "As the way we work changes, staff networks must evolve to stay relevant and effective."

Furthermore, staff networks are invaluable in giving a voice to underrepresented and often marginalized employee populations. In a time when geopolitical issues spill over into the workplace, networks offer a platform for employees to channel their concerns into productive advocacy and action.

With the rise of AI, the search for top talent, and the rollback of DEI initiatives, organisations are pivoting their approach to EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion). These shifts have created new challenges, and staff networks may face increased pressure. However, by staying adaptable and #ReadyForChange, resource groups can remain resilient, continuing to drive inclusion and support in the workplace.

The National Day for Staff Networks invites the entire EDI ecosystem—from practitioners and board sponsors to allies—to come together and celebrate the value that staff networks bring to the workplace. This is a fantastic opportunity to cement your commitment to these communities and reinforce the role of networks in #MakingWorkBetter for everyone.

To celebrate the day, the National Staff Networks Conference will be held at the Congress Centre in London. The conference will feature a fantastic lineup of speakers, including Sal Naseem, author of True North, former Olympian Donna Fraser OBE, and Matt Jenkins, CEO of Dream and Leap. The event will offer workshops, networking opportunities, and insights on how staff networks can strengthen their impact and drive inclusivity in the workplace.
