Only 0.4% Say Their Leadership Is Diverse, Diversity Dashboard Poll Reveals

Sunday, May 11, 2025

A recent poll conducted by Diversity Dashboard has uncovered a stark perception gap in UK workplaces, with just 0.4% of respondents saying the leadership in their organisation is diverse.

The poll, which ran from 1st March to 1st May 2025, asked a single, straightforward question: “Is the leadership in your organisation diverse?”

Out of 1,919 responses, a majority — 51% — said “No”, while 48% answered “Don’t Know”. Only 7 respondents, representing less than one percent, selected “Yes”.

The figures point to a growing concern among employees about the visibility and representation of senior leadership in UK organisations. The high percentage of “Don’t Know” responses suggests that many staff either lack awareness of who is in leadership roles or do not feel confident assessing their diversity.

“These results are a wake-up call for employers who talk about inclusion but fail to show it at the top,” said a spokesperson from Diversity Dashboard. “Representation matters — and employees are clearly not seeing it where it counts most.”

The findings come amid wider conversations about the pace of progress on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) across British workplaces. While many companies have launched initiatives to improve recruitment, retention and culture, critics argue that too little has changed in boardrooms and executive teams.

The poll is part of Diversity Dashboard’s ongoing work to track how employees view inclusion in real time. It also highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability around leadership structures and progression.

Organisations are being urged to examine their leadership pipelines, publish demographic data, and take concrete steps to ensure their senior teams reflect the diversity of their workforce and the wider community.
