Our vision is of a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together.
The Bat Conservation Trust supports local bat groups across the UK and nearly 5,000 members. We work with volunteers, scientists, industry and government both locally and nationally on a range of projects. To achieve our vision of a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together, our work focuses on discovering more about bats and how they use the landscape, taking action to protect bats and enhance the landscapes on which they rely, inspiring people about bats and their environment, engaging them in their conservation and strengthen our work by building skills, resources, motivation and understanding.
Our Responsibilities
At BCT, we take our EDI responsibilities seriously. We are committed to embedding EDI principles across all aspects of our work, including:
- Recognising the intersections between discrimination, privilege, and oppression, which go beyond the protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
- Supporting and contributing to the Wildlife and Countryside Link (WCL) diversity and anti-racism statement and Route Map.
- Committing to The Race Report and actively contributing data to help monitor racial diversity within the sector.
A Community of Respect
We strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every individual—whether staff, trustees, volunteers, or supporters—can be themselves and fully contribute to BCT’s mission. Our goal is to foster a bat conservation community where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. We believe that an inclusive culture strengthens our collective ability to protect bats and promote biodiversity.
Ongoing Learning and Growth
Our commitment to EDI is an ongoing journey, and we are constantly learning, evolving, and seeking feedback. We welcome input from those who are working to improve access to nature for underrepresented groups or who are driving change within the conservation and environmental sectors. If you have feedback or wish to collaborate, please reach out to us at inclusion@bats.org.uk.
At BCT, we are dedicated to creating a future where equity, diversity, and inclusion are at the heart of our conservation efforts—ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to connect with and contribute to the protection of bats and nature.
