Applications are invited for a Data Scientist in the Department of Physics and Astronomy . You will assist in maintaining and developing the IT infrastructure and to provide operational support for critical services. You will report to the IT manager of Sheffield Solar but day to day work will be organised within the team to ensure appropriate levels of cover for commercial service provision as well as achieving the groups’ research and development goals. A close working relationship is expected with all members of the Sheffield Solar team.

In this role you will be required to participate in a formal on-call rota to provide emergency responses across the University Estates. Participation in this rota will be determined by the University in accordance with the on-call provisions.

Sheffield Solar is an applied research group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sheffield. They provide energy data services associated with monitoring and forecasting solar electricity generation. This includes a commercial national monitoring service (PV Live https://www.solar.sheffield.ac.uk/pvlive/) that is purchased by National Grid ESO and a commercial forecasting service. The group operates a variety of data streaming, storage, analysis and publication processes on University and cloud servers. Some of these processes support research activities and others are critical to commercial service provision.
