Applications are invited for a motivated and experienced Biofacility Manager to undertake the role of Centre Manager / NACWO for a busy, large animal biomedical facility situated on the north of Cambridge.
As Centre Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the Centre which provides a comprehensive biomedical service for large and farm animals – primarily sheep, chickens and pigs, in order to facilitate the research and teaching requirements of users from other University Departments and commercial external users.
You will manage a team of technicians who are responsible for the daily husbandry, care and welfare of the animals, liaising with the Deputy Biofacility Manager to ensure that the workload is coordinated effectively to ensure sufficient staff cover to care for the animals at all times, and meet user requirements. You shall be responsible for the completion of all administrative processes for the Centre including monitoring of stock and equipment; financial recharging of research groups; health, safety and security of the Centre; as well as Home Office compliance processes.
As Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer (NACWO) for the Centre, you shall be the primary point of contact for the Project and Personal Licence holders within the Centre. You shall provide advice and guidance in regards to Home Office regulations, commenting on Project Licences and reviewing study plans to ensure appropriate allocation of resources and compliance with Home Office regulations, and attend Animal Welfare Ethical Review Body (AWERB) meetings as required. You shall act as liaison between the research users and technical staff to deal with researcher requirements, and resolve complex issues. You shall also work with the users and department to further develop the Centre, including review and development of all processes and procedures in operation within the facility, and the attraction of new research work to the Centre.
As the successful candidates for this role you will have experience working in a designated establishment with laboratory animals, including experience in all aspects of the daily management regimes of an animal facility. You will hold Institute of Animal Technology Membership qualification, and the NACWO qualification (or equivalent experience) and have knowledge of Home Office legislation and guidelines.
The facility operates a rota system to provide animal care and essential husbandry at weekends and over Bank Holidays, which you may be required to support from time to time. The role holder will be required to take part in an out of hour’s emergency call out list for the Centre.
Salary range for this role is £36,261 – £48,677, and the role is subject to a 6 month probationary period on appointment.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
