We’re now looking for a Software Developer to join us in Birmingham and play a key role in the development and maintenance of applications and IT systems that enable our work. 

As a Software Developer, you will be tasked with ensuring software code is high quality, fit for purpose, maintainable, tested and adheres to industry methodology. 

Focusing on the design and development of new and existing applications, you’ll be taking personal ownership of a given piece of development work and ensuring the support and guidance you provide resolves issues right through the SDLC. 

Joining our Support Services team means leading on projects and pioneering new services that enable everyone at the Commission to do their jobs exceptionally. It’s a broad team covering Facilities, Health and Safety and core IT, including Information Management & Security. The team are an integrated part of the wider Commission so no matter what your role, you’ll collaborate to find new solutions to familiar problems and proactively explore new ways to help us improve. You won’t be confined by your job title and will have plenty of opportunities to follow your own ideas that ultimately help elevate our work and our impact on the public. 

Your role will also include: 


– Developing applications with security in mind 


- Analysing and translating functional requirements into software deliverables 


- Communicating solutions options to technical and non-technical staff 


- Maintaining an awareness of business requirements and third party suppliers 


- Keeping up-to-date with trends within software development 


- Identifying and communicating advancements across the organisation 

The ideal Software Developer will also possess the ability to deliver software to utilise the features of the Azure platform. Knowledge of the GOV Design System would also be beneficial, as would the ability to develop software using SQL Server as the underlying data store.
